Leadership Style & Philosophy
Evidence-based, human-centred and future-forward: how Valeria leads, builds and enables transformative change.
AS SEEN IN

PHILOSOPHY
Valeria's leadership is grounded in a deep belief in human potential. She believes that people, when given the right conditions, consistently exceed what systems expect of them and that the work of leadership is largely to create those conditions.
Central to this is a conviction that narrative, culture, governance and strategy are inseparable. Together they determine what organisations believe is possible, how they behave and what they ultimately achieve. Shift one without the others and potential stalls. Lead all four with equal care and strategic intent and transformation becomes durable.
This conviction extends to how she thinks about the pace and depth of change. For transformation to stick, it must work simultaneously at three levels: consciousness (how people think, feel and relate to the world), culture (how they behave, collaborate and define success) and structure (how systems are organised, resourced and governed). Work only at the surface and change is cosmetic. Work at all three and it lasts.
Running through all of this is a clear position on power and legitimacy. The people closest to a problem carry the knowledge that systems most need and most consistently ignore. Centring their needs, reconciling competing agendas and redistributing attention, resources and decision-making power is not a values statement. It is a strategic imperative. Real change requires redefining what success means and who gets to shape it.
A lifelong student of the brain, human physiology, behaviour and human conditions, she is committed to seeing the people behind the 'stakeholder' and listening deeply to them. Her experience of outdated systems and cultures convinced her of the importance of fostering empathy, agency and joy in all we do, including in how we lead. Empathy is how we understand what is actually at stake for the people a system is meant to serve. Agency is what we are ultimately working to restore in communities, in teams and in the leaders she supports. And joy, found in the work, in the people and in the process of change itself, is what makes it sustainable.
She also holds that the strength of any initiative lies not just in its strategy but in the people, culture and structures that carry it forward and keep it relevant. By investing deliberately in trust, belonging and long-term capacity, she builds organisations and movements that outlast any single leader or mandate.
In all she does, she remains anchored in ethical principles and champions audacity, transparency and inclusion. True leadership, to her, means service to multiple stakeholders, building trust even among sceptics, elevating new voices and talents and making choices that serve the greater good. And it means being willing to let go of ego, because the scale of impact can far outstrip the scale of resources when the work is genuinely in service of something larger than any one person or organisation.
CHARACTER: Who Valeria Is as a Leader
Peers and collaborators who have worked alongside Valeria describe a consistent picture: a leader who combines strategic rigour with deep relational intelligence, who holds complexity without being overwhelmed by it and who moves collective missions forward with quiet determination, integrity and care.
She leads from a deeply held set of values rather than from position or authority. Non-judgment, resilience, vulnerability and authenticity are not aspirational qualities for her. They are the daily practice. She checks in as a person before stepping into a governance role, and she leads from the front and the back with equal comfort, knowing that the most important leadership often happens in the shadow rather than the spotlight. Those who have worked with her through institutional tension, personal hardship and moments of crisis consistently note that she shows up, for the mission and for the people, without exception.
She is a builder of cultures as much as a builder of organisations. By nurturing collective intelligence, psychological safety, accountability and genuine agency, she creates the conditions in which talent and creativity consistently exceed expectations. She invests deliberately in trust and belonging, knowing that the strength of any initiative lies in the people and structures that carry it forward long after the strategy is set. People who have worked with her describe environments that are safe and experimental in equal measure, where they are challenged but also seen, given direction without being micromanaged and trusted to own their part of the process.
Her approach to developing others is equally specific. She identifies what people are capable of before they see it themselves, creates the conditions for them to grow into it and holds them accountable with care rather than pressure. More than one person has described working with her as formative, something that changed not just their work but how they think.
Her relational intelligence is matched by operational follow-through. She is known for fearlessly tackling difficult decisions guided by her values and deep listening, for translating vision into structure and commitment into results, and for being a thought partner who gives ideas back sharper, better curated and more fully realised than she received them. Once she commits, she delivers.
She approaches every challenge with a playful spirit, staying committed to the why while remaining unattached to the how. She blends imagination and intuition with technical and analytical rigour, making navigating complexity feel smooth and energising for those around her. Whether in a one-to-one coaching session, a boardroom, a multi-stakeholder negotiation or on an international stage, she brings the same presence, energy and quality of attention to every context.
Witnessing people unlock and realise their potential is one of the things that brings her the greatest joy, and it shows in the way she leads and the impact she makes possible.

TOOLKIT: What Valeria Draws On and How She Works
Valeria’s toolkit is deliberately wide. She draws on a multidisciplinary foundation spanning the human: biology, neuroscience, behavioural and trauma-informed science; the systemic: systems and complexity thinking, social innovation, ecosystem building and policy and governance; the communicative: narrative strategy and strategic communications; and the digital: technology, data and media. These are not adjacent competences. She brings them together into ventures, ecosystems, strategies and experiences that work simultaneously at the level of the human and the system.
This breadth is grounded in a core belief: that everything is connected and nothing exists in isolation. She approaches every challenge holistically, looking always for the best levers for change and where action at one level has a knock-on effect at another or more. This is also what allows her to decouple the scale of impact from the scale of resources required to get there. By combining the right disciplines, tools and collaborative structures, she consistently achieves more than conventional logic suggests is possible.
Narrative is one of her most powerful tools. She understands that the stories a community, organisation or movement tells about itself shape what its members believe is possible and how they act. She uses narrative strategically, to shift mindsets, build coalitions, reframe what success means and make the case for change to audiences ranging from grassroots communities, consumers and citizens to institutions, policymakers and global media. Once people are ready to act, she makes it easy for them through ecosystems that connect intent and behaviour and optimise for the results that benefit people, places and planet.
Her methods combine the rigour of evidence with the depth of listening. She draws on data, research and analytical frameworks alongside deep listening, embodied practice and genuine curiosity about human behaviour. She understands that numbers tell one story and lived experience tells another, and that the most durable strategies honour both.
Collaborators consistently remark on her ability to translate complexity into clarity. Whether distilling a multi-stakeholder negotiation into its key points of consensus and divergence, shaping a pitch that moves a room or holding and chairing spaces that make hard conversations feel possible, she brings the same quality of attention: sharp, structured, curious, principled and deeply human.

They are the recurring threads she has found, across fifteen years of practice, to be the most powerful levers for lasting change. At their heart is a simple ambition: to show people a new reality, expand their worldview and inspire and enable them to act, creating the conditions from which collective action and lasting change become possible.

DECISIONS: How Valeria Leads in Practice
Valeria approaches every decision the same way she approaches every challenge: holistically. She emphasises the importance of first understanding what we seek to improve, whether through measuring and analysing or through deep listening and inquiry. Well read and theoretically grounded, she is equally able to think innovatively on her feet, pushing issues forward fast at an executive level while bringing everyone along.
Those who have worked alongside her in moments of institutional tension and crisis consistently describe the same quality: under pressure, she remains focused on the larger vision while helping those around her find a constructive path forward. She has civil courage: the willingness to speak truth when ethical dimensions are in play, raise critical issues when others stay silent and stand firm on principle even when it is uncomfortable. At the same time, she is a diplomat, patient, considered and skilled at building consensus across divergent positions without sacrificing integrity.
Valeria is equally deliberate about closing the loop. Her feedback is specific, timely, thought-provoking, actionable and compassionate, and she gives it consistently whether leading, advising or teaching. To her, feedback is not just a management tool. It is an act of care too.
